Opportunities to Share Your Musical Gifts
St. John's Lutheran Church has a rich music heritage including choirs for all age groups that invites the whole community to share their musical gifts. Opportunities to be involved musically at St. John’s is available for people of any age and any level of music ability.
St. John's Choir - Teens and adults sing each Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service from mid-September to mid-June and for holiday services. There are "Music Sundays" twice a year featuring special music at the 10:30 a.m. service. Rehearsals are on Sunday at 9:00 am in the choir room located beneath the sanctuary; a few extra rehearsals are held during the year. Instruction in singing and sight reading at all levels is part of rehearsals.
Eaglesounds Ensemble - Youth in grades 6 to 12 play music several times a year at the 10:30 a.m. service. Rehearsals are Sundays during the Sunday School hour before the 10:30 a.m. service.
Cherub and Chorister Choirs - Children are encouraged to raise their voices to God in worship. The cherubs are those in grades K and 1. Music rudiments are taught by Jennifer Famous, music educator. The choristers are those in grades 3-6. The choirs rehearse Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. from mid-September to Easter and sing at seven services each season. They perform a musical each fall.
Summer Music - Children and adults are encouraged to sing or play music during the summer months. A men's choir and a women's choir sing once each during the time while the St. John's Choir is not singing.
Choir Camp - Choir Camp for children entering grades K to 6 in the fall is held for four mornings during August each summer at the church, with a children's musical at the center of our activity. Participation is open to those coming only to camp, or to those who will continue in the Children's Choirs in the fall.
Instrumentalists - People of all ages who play musical instruments participate either as soloists or in ensembles throughout the year.
Lutheran Summer Music - High school singers and instrumentalists apply each year for this national program held at a Midwestern Lutheran college. St. John's offers partial scholarships.
