The annual Pancake Breakfast fundraiser, held on Saturday, September 27, was met with great success.  Fellowship and food (40 lbs of sausage alone) were shared both indoors and grill side.  The unusually warm autumn weather provided a most welcome setting for the well over 150 people in attendance throughout the morning.  In keeping with the breakfast, the Women of the ELCA assemblage host ambitious fundraisers during the year with the sole purpose of providing outreach gifts to local and global organizations.

This summer, St. Johns Lutheran Church purchased new L. L. Bean backpacks for 44 children in the Stamford area.  This was made possible through several donations from congregation members.  The backpacks were then customized with school supplies the children need based on the school that each child is to attend this fall.  Supplies were collected from community children attending our Vacation Bible School program as well as from additional congregation members and their friends.  Both kids and adults worked together to fill the backpacks full of supplies and a special treat.  They were distributed at a spaghetti dinner held for the children and their families in August.  Everyone involved had a good time and agreed that it was a very worthwhile project!

Hammonasset is the annual gathering of youth from the New England Synod of the Evangelical Church in America (ELCA). Over 800 attendees from more than 60 youth groups came to Hammonasset Beach State Park September 5 for a weekend of small Bible group study, listen to nationally-known speakers and great live bands, and inspirational worship. This year participants brought donations for the Seafarers and International House for seafarers who will not be home with their families for Christmas.

Thank you to everyone from the Youth for supporting their trip to Hammonasset and for the generous donations to the Seafarers and International House. The weekend was filled with music, speakers and fun. We'd also like to thank the chaperones: Marty Bier, Andrew Chuckas, Cheryl Milukas and John Schnefke for preparing for the trip and coming with us, and Gayle Hartfelder and Mary Lupo for planning the menu and shopping for the food.
